Hi friends 🌞
As the days grow longer and there’s more sunlight, I’ve felt the pull to be outside more than ever. There are moments when it’s nearly impossible to sit still or stay focused on schoolwork—my body just wants to move and be outside.
While I’m genuinely enjoying what I’m learning in grad school, spending hours at a desk in front of a screen has been a challenge—especially for someone who, in years past, was used to working outside in the fields, farming with hands in the soil. This season has been a real shift, to say the least.
But I’m also grateful. Every experience offers perspective—reminding us of what we’ve had, what we value, and what we want to carry with us into the next season of our life.
And with that in mind, I’ve been thinking a lot about how easy it is to feel disconnected from nature in our fast-paced, tech-heavy world… even when we’re longing for it. The good news is that we don’t need a full-on camping trip to feel more grounded (thank goodness lol). Just a few small shifts throughout the day can help us reconnect with the natural world—and with ourselves.
Here are 5 simple ways I’ve been incorporating more nature into my day-to-day routine, even with a modern lifestyle.

1. Step outside first thing in the morning
Whatever time you wake up, make it a habit to go outside—even if it’s just for a few minutes. Take in the natural light. Morning sunlight tells your body it’s time to wake up and sets off a cascade of healthy hormones, including those that help your body produce melanin (nature’s built-in sunscreen).
2. Eat your meals outside when you can
Sunlight supports our metabolism, and being outdoors while eating can help digestion feel easier. Even a quick lunch break outside can make a difference.
3. Let natural light into your space
Open windows to let sunlight into your home or workspace. Glass blocks some of the beneficial wavelengths of light (like UV and infrared) which actually support things like mood, metabolism, and even collagen production. Think of sunlight as nourishment, not just something to avoid.
4. Take your calls on the move, outside
Instead of pacing inside or sitting at your desk, bring your phone calls outdoors. Walking in green spaces can lower stress and help you feel more grounded. Plus, sunlight helps your brain make serotonin, which naturally lifts your mood :)
5. Use your weekends to get outside more
We may not have total control over our weekday schedules, but weekends are a chance to be more intentional. Go for a walk, hike, visit a local lake, have a picnic, or simply sit in the park. Prioritizing nature time over screen time can leave you feeling more energized and aligned heading into a new week.

I hope this inspires you to create more outside time in your day-to-day. I can guarantee you it will have a positive impact on your mind, body & spirit.
I hope you’re smiling!
with love,
kenzie
